Little adorable puppy!

Janice, I am so glad you entered. Your Puppy is so cute. I like his inquisitive look. You have captured good depth to the face and the eyes are pushed back making his nose and mouth come foreward like it should.Just a hint of his collar gives an indication that it is there without being overpowering. You have good seprate colors and strokes which define individual wisps of fur.
I think the top poof of fur is a little to defined making a round ball of fur for the top
of the head. In the reference I don't see a clear distinction seperating the ears and top poof. The highlights in the eyes should be near the same place on each eye.(Should be left of left eye, left of right eye.)You did achieve good soft curls on his body. Let us know if you have a blog or website I would like to see more of your work.

I love the expression on the puppy's face you have captured. It is so adorable. It clearly demonstrates baby's curiosity and unspoken questions. The choice of the background is very appropriate and blue and green from it reflected in the puppy's fur - simply great.

If this was intended to be an illustration, the only part I would change is right eye (as we look at picture). The left eye is perfect, the right one has no three dimensional look. I agree with Angela, highlight is misplaced and deepest darks not dark enough.

The lack of depth and diversity in the the fur layers prevents more realistic appearance.

Your painting really depicts the texture of his fur, Janice. His highlight is off in his one eye, but you have managed to create great depth in his eyes...I can almost see into his soul.

I find pastels so difficult so I applaud anyone who can use them well! I agree with the others, the expression is terrific (just a minor tweak of the highlight in his one eye is needed). Great puppy rendering.

I've been having daily computer crashes for the past week+ and decided it was better to post it while I can rather than not get anything submitted. By the way, took the pup back to the groomer and had that annoying topknot flattened out a bit. LOL."

Janice, I like that you took some creative license with the puppy. The fur looks kinky like it should and the over-large eyes are very expressive. The one thing that distracts me is the eyes seem too far back, like they're hiding under the hair poof. I think a little less distance between the eyes and nose would lessen this effect.
